Our Story

While backyard poultry farming remains a vital source of income for rural families, its development is hindered by various obstacles. Key issues include non-descript breeds, inefficient breeding practices, low egg yields, and slow growth rates. Furthermore, high mortality, frequent disease outbreaks, and weak market connections are compounded by a lack of technical expertise, medical supplies, and structured marketing systems.

In response to these challenges, Poulgen was established to bridge the gap between scientific research and practical rural farming. Leveraging a deep research foundation and a commitment to strengthening indigenous poultry systems, the organization develops improved desi chicken varieties and provides essential technical support. By creating sustainable opportunities, Poulgen aims to make backyard poultry farming more productive, profitable, and accessible for rural communities across India.

About Us

Founded in 2015, Poulgen Farms is dedicated to transforming rural livelihoods through scientific and sustainable indigenous poultry farming. Under the guidance of Dr. Biplab Kumar Patra, a renowned Geneticist and poultry experts pioneers in pure-line breeding programs to conserve and enhance native desi chicken genetics from Eastern India.Through continuous research and innovation, we developed Jangal Mahal Desi™, an improved pure desi variety that is both commercially viable and perfectly suited for backyard farming. Furthermore, Poulgen Farms empowers rural youth, women, entrepreneurs, and self-help groups by creating sustainable income opportunities and improving community nutrition through access to high-quality protein.

We offer JM Desi™ growers of different ages ranges from 4 weeks to 6 weeks. Most of the vaccinations has been done and ready to rear in free range, semi-intesive and organic ways. The survival and growth rates are excellent.
